Though it is a story that involves travel, it is not typical in any way...
After some time living in San Francisco and with many signs indicating as such, Chelsea has a niggling feeling that it is time to leave that city. As an artist and a creative, she finds that life in the bay area is a little stale for her which seems to be affecting not only her art, but also every fiber of her being. So, she decides to build a new lifestyle for herself that will allow her to travel all over the world, practice her art, meet new people and build community with them. And she is going to do it all with her best pal, her motorcycle named The Phoenix. The journey is moving along swimmingly until that one day…
Chelsea’s new life and lifestyle are almost brought to an abrupt halt when a catastrophic event occurs while she and The Phoenix are riding - alone - in a Mexican desert. Will her trusty companion start again or will Chelsea’s vision end before it really has a chance to begin?

Fantastique!
I absolutely loved this book. I read it during SSR and was laughing out loud at some parts. This book has life lessons without being preachy, and is truly fun to read. The characters are compelling and believable. Kudos also to the translator; often books that were originally written in Spanish are not great in French (for example, they don't translate culturally), but this one feels seamlessly French with current vocab. I am excited to add it to my classroom library!

makes me want to be dead
we are reading this in spanish class, fucking awful. Listening to my spanish (very white) teacher read this makes me want to dig my pencils all the way up my eardrums until I cant hear a thing. When I have to answer questions about these stupid little kids and their soccer obsession that DETErmINE MY GRaDE, I think about dropping out. to all the Spanish teachers out there, making your students read this book should be considered child abuse DO NOT recommend.

Love this book for my novice learners. The story is compelling - the reader HAS to keep reading because we want to know how the problem is resolved! In addition to engaging topic/action the underlying struggle that a character has in deciding what to do is great for teens to experience. I also love that it features realistic characters that are portrayed with their humanity.
I recommend this product.

Easy to understand
This story was easy to read without being too repetitive. It is written with the novice student in mind. I love that it ties in another Francophone country for us to explore as well as "le foot"!

Love El Jersey!
I use El Jersey to enhance our 8th grade "Living on One" thematic unit after students complete a unit on Copa America. The cultural ties to Guatemala and to the Copa are endless. My students really relate to the characters.

Great addition to your FVR library
My level 2 Spanish students enjoy this book in Spanish because it is written with vocab and structure they can understand. They also enjoy how the two worlds come together. These situations can happen to any of us. When students read this book, they are not only learning Spanish, they are learning good character.
I recommend this product.

Cute, Simple Rom-Com
I LOVE that this book features a black female main character. #BlackLivesMatter This is a cute, simple romantic book, written in easily accessible language for your struggling readers. The plot is predictable and uncomplicated, which is what we want from our Rom-Com books and movies, right? This book is constantly being read by my students during FVR. Love it!!
